Everyone is welcome to celebrate the festival of Navaratri with Samashti Devi puja at Chinmaya Rameshwaram. Navaratri (nava=nine, ratri=nights) is dedicated to the nine forms of Goddess Shakti.
Day 1: Shailaputri – provides strength like of unmovable stone, courage and composure.
Day 2: Brahmacharini – provides ability to recognize our true Higher nature.
Day 3: Chandraghanta – provider of alertness.
Day 4: Kushmanda – provider of creative abilities.
Day 5: Skandamata – mother of Skanda (Kartikeya), provider of skills and innocence, courage and compassion.
Day 6: Katyayini – provider of the finer qualities of healthy relationships.
Day 7: Kaalaratri – provider of deep rest and dynamism.
Day 8: Mahagauri – wife of Lord Shiva, the one who does extraordinary penance and provides wisdom.
Day 9: Siddhidaatri – provider of siddhis and mystical powers.
A special highlight of this puja will be the setup of Golu (festive dolls) steps at the altar. The steps signify the progressive states of existence to realize our higher nature.
Everyone is welcome to bring a deity or a pair of “marapachi dolls” to add to the Golu display. Please tag the dolls with your name and take them back at the end of event.
Everyone is welcome to bring naivedyam for offering at the altar.
