Upanishad Series: Mundakopanishad (Concluding Part) by Swami Ishwarananda

Friday, Jan 11, 2019
– Friday, Jan 11, 2019

Time: 7:30pm – 8:45pm

It is a strange bridge from your stupid ego to the Infinite Reality.

Each time you take two steps, the bridge behind you is burnt.

-Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda

The central philosophical concepts of Atmavidya (or knowledge of the Self) in Hinduism are contained in ancient Sanskrit texts called the Upanishads, a part of Vedas. Upanishads are also known as Vedanta. The sacred doctrine is known to grant freedom from suffering and lead to the state of unbridled happiness. Riddled with seemingly contradictory and cryptic statements, the secret of Vedanta can be unraveled only by Masters who have translated theoretical knowledge to experiential abidance.

Prepare for a journey that will defy and challenge your current perspective on life. Discover a deeper meaning to living. Through a series of week-long lectures once a month, Swami Ishwarananda will demystify the principal Upanishads. Swamiji recently finished the overview of Kathopanishad.

Swamiji will continue to elaborate on and conclude Mundakopanishad. This Upanishad elaborates on the concepts of “Higher Knowledge” and “Lower Knowledge”. It contains the oft-quoted dialogue between the two birds symbolizing the mortal (jiva) and the Divine (ishwara). If you have ever wondered what is the reason why we do pujas and offerings; and if they can lead to the state of permanent, unconditional happiness, this Upanishad will provide the answers.

Everyone is welcome to attend the lectures. Please be seated in the hall 5 minutes before start of lecture.

Pre-requisite is an inquisitive mind.
