Swami Ishwarananda gives lectures on ‘Hastamalakiyam’, a composition of Adi Shankaracharya. The meaning of this title is ‘Gooseberry in the palm’. A young whom Shankaracharya met during one of his sojourns, impressed him due to his innocence and unsullied blissful state in which the boy lived. Though shunned by others as ‘mad’, Shankaracharya could recognize him as a ‘Self-realized soul’. At once he initiated him as a disciple. The conversation that he had with this boy is composed by himself as ‘Hastamalakiyam’
That state of Self-realization is clearly depicted in this composition.
